CROP 2022-23

Rwanda, known as the land of a thousand hills, this small East African country must not be forgotten by coffee roasters and coffee enthusiasts. Its production of high-quality, high-altitude coffee counters the fight against poverty. Coffee is not native to Rwanda, but it seems to have been introduced to the country by German missionaries in the early 1900s. Since then, it has grown to represent an economic opportunity for many rural families. Coffee is one of the country's most valuable crops and has become central to economic growth after the tragic Rwandan genocide of 1994.

The Rwanda National Agricultural Export and Development Board (NAEB) states that the coffee strategy is to "position Rwanda as a producer of specialty coffee and thus be able to enhance the sector and contribute to the country's growth and prosperity."

Cupper's notes

A highly balanced and well-rounded coffee. It boasts a great body and subtle citric acidity. Fruity notes of mango and cherry are accompanied by sweet chocolate undertones and floral hints of jasmine on the finish. A full cup, quite complex, and well-structured.

The volcanic soils, high altitudes, and nitrogen-rich conditions on which coffee plants thrive create excellent conditions for the production of high-quality cherries. The plantation where Bourbon Ingagi is cultivated benefits from mineral-rich soil and very pure water due to its proximity to Nyungwe National Park.
